CDXC HF Challenge 2023
Another great HF Challenge with plenty of DX being worked across all bands and modes with some very close results.
The 2023 HF Challenge saw a change to the award categories: in previous years the Hinson Trophy was awarded for the most DXCC worked using traditional modes (SSB/CW) this year it was decided to separate the two modes and now the Hinson Trophy is for the most DXCC worked on CW and a new Trophy will be awarded for the most DXCC worked on SSB. The Chairman’s Cup remains the same for most DXCC worked using MGM.
The Hinson Trophy was extremely close this year with Lionel G5LP and John GM0OPS both finishing on 123 DXCC on CW and only 10 slots separated the two. Lionel G5LP came out on top with 123 DXCC/236 slots and wins the Hinson Trophy. John GM0OPS finished second on 123 DXCC/226 slots. Paul G4PVM finished in third with 91 DXCC.
The TBD Trophy was won by Norman 5B4AIF with 112 DXCC worked on SSB, followed by David MW0CRI in second with 82 and Robert G4TUK in third with 67.
The Chairman’s Cup for most DXCC worked using MGM was close this year with Steve PJ4DX coming first with 183 followed in second by John GM0OPS who worked 179. Just two behind in third place with 177 DXCC was Trevor EI2GLB.
The winner of the 15m Salver was John GM0OPS with 172, certificates will be awarded to Steve PJ4DX and Norman 5B4AIF who came joint second place on 158.
The overall winner for 12m and awarded the Salver is Steve PJ4DX with 147, close behind in second was Norman 5B4AIF with 143 and John GM0OPS in third with 137 both receiving certificates.
The 10m Salver winner was Norman 5B4AIF with 169, with certificates going to Andrey 5B4AMX who came second with 162 and John GM0OPS who came in third with 145.
The overall winner for 6m was Andrey 5B4AMX who receives the Salver with 45, Norman 5B4AIF and Kev G0CHE both finished joint second with 41 DXCC.

A total of 32,507 QSOs were made in the 2023 HF Challenge with 24,723 being worked on MGM, 4,701 on CW and 3,083 on SSB. Despite this lean towards MGM modes, there was still plenty of DX to be worked on CW and SSB. Both CW and SSB entries had some great DX contacts into the Pacific on most bands so the traditional modes are still very much alive for DX working.
