Surely the sunspot activity has now hit its low and next year will be better!  DX was harder to come by than in 2019, and the winning score was the lowest since 2009.  Despite the low sunspot activity, the level of interest in the HF Challenge remained strong again this year, with more than fifty stations from 30 DXCC entities on 5 continents participating by posting their scores on the Club Log HF Challenge page. 

This year’s HF Challenge is the first to be completed under the new rules announced by the CDXC Committee at the end of 2018, resulting in separate categories for CW/SSB and Machine Generated Modes (MGMs).

In the traditional CW/SSB category, Paul G4PVM and Dai MWØCRI were tied with 47 DXCCs worked, but Paul G4PVM was awarded the Hinson Trophy based on Band Slots worked, 68 vs. Dai’s 58.  Congratulations to both for such a close race.  Andrew MØNKR was the first winner of the MGM category in the HF Challenge and the recipient of the Chairman’s Cup, with 119 DXCCs worked using Machine Generated Modes (MGMs).

Individual Band salver winners were Andrew MØNKR for 15M, Dai MWØCRI for 12M and 10M, and Gordon G3PXT for 6M.

Certificates of Merit have been awarded to G1VDP, G3PXT, G5LP, MØNKR and MWØCRI.  Trophies and salvers will be presented at the next CDXC AGM in May 2020, while certificates will be e-mailed to winners shortly.
